Brend Assists Lakehead to 7-3 Win

The Lakehead Thunderwolves raised their 2005-06 Queens Cup Banner and also unveiled their new navy blue uniforms and the Wolves seemed inspired as seven different players scored to lead Lakehead to a 7-3 OUA home opener win over the visiting Windsor Lancers Friday night before 2975 fans at the Fort William Gardens in Thunder Bay.

Freshman defenseman Jarryd Brend led the Wolves with four assists while Mike Wehrstedt, Shandor Alphonso, Matt Jacques, Brad Priestlay, Nathan Breukelman, Steve Rawski, and Mark Robinson. Tobias Whelan added two assists. Jordie Preston, Alex Smith, and Ryan Bresden scored for the Lancers.

Lakehead goaltender Chris Whitley turned aside 22 of 25 Windsor shots while Lancers netminder Reese Kalleitner stopped 41 of 48 Lakehead shots.

Both teams were assessed 18 minors and Lakehead scored on five of their powerplay attempts (5-16) while Windsor was 0-16 with the man advantage.

Lakeheads OUA mark goes to 2-1 (4-4 overall) Windsors OUA record goes to 1-2 (1-5 overall).
