Bulldogs Too Much for Wolves

The Lakehead Thunderwolves mens hockey team had a tough start to their NCAAcircle tour around Lake Superior as they fell 8-1 to the University of Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs Thursday night in Duluth, Minnesota.

Lakeheads lone tally came from Matt Maissoneuve while UMD was led by Michael Gergen and Jordan Fulton with a pair of goals while singles came from Mason Raymond, Logan Gersalitz, Drew Aiken, and Jason Garrison. The Wolves were outshot 37-24 in the match.

Play in the first period was fairly even with UMD ending the period with a 1-0 lead and an 11-8 shot margin. However, the Bulldogs scored three in the second and added four in the third before Maissoneuve scored at 18:15 to break UMDs shutout.

The Wolves went 0-6 on the powerplay while UMD converted two of their six opportunities with the man advantage. Lakehead Head Coach Pete Belliveau said his team didnt have its best game. It was an very embarrassing loss and we have to regroup fast or its going to be three embarrassing losses here.

The Thunderwolves continue their Lake Superior NCAA Circle Tour Friday night when they play the Michigan Tech Huskies in Houghton, Michigan.
