Lakehead Athletics and Thunderwolves Hockey are very happy to announce the commitment of power forward Devin Welsh to Lakehead mens hockey for the 2007-08 season. Welsh now plays for the Okotoks Oilers of the Alberta Junior Hockey League and also played four seasons for Moose Jaw, Everett, and Kooteany of the WHL. He started this season with Lethbridge of the WHL and then briefly with Peterborough of the OHL before deciding on finishing his junior career with Okotoks.

Welsh scored 5 goals and 8 assists for the Oilers in the regular season and has a goal and an assist in 13 playoff games so far this season for Okotoks. Welsh is a big, strong, power forward with good hands who is also an A student.

Welsh said he is ready for the Lakehead experience. Im really looking forward to be going to a reputable school with a great hockey team and a good learning environment. Im really excited to have the opportunity to be a part of it.

Lakehead Western Scout Jacques Trudel said Welsh can play the game with skill and toughness. At 6'3" and 210 lbs, Devin is a power forward with great work ethic and skill and someone who will provide space for his linemates. Devin graduated in high school with honours and is looking forward to obtaining a degree in Business before pursuing a career in hockey.

Welsh is from Winnipeg, Manitoba and played his minor hockey with the Winnipeg Monarchs Association. As a 15 year old, he helped his team win the Manitoba Bantam Division. He was selected MVP at the Western Canadian Bantam Championship the same season.
