Dobben Scores Game Winner in 4-3 victory over Lancers

The CIS No. 5 Lakehead Thunderwolves mens hockey team battled past the Windsor Lancers 4-3 Friday night at the Windsor Arenain Windsor, Ontario in the first of a two-game road series for the Wolves.

Lakehead goes to 16-3-1-1 in OUA play (22-6-1-1 overall) while Windsor is 11-9-0-1 in OUA action and 12-14-0-1 overall. With the win; Lakehead closes within a point of OUA Far West division leading and CIS No. 6 Laurier.

Windsor jumped out to an early first period lead on a goal by Brett Vandehogen but the Wolves fought back and built a 3-1 lead after the first period on goals by Kris Hogg, Brad Priestlay, and Mark Soares.

Windsor scored two of their own in the second when Vandehogen notched his second of the game and the other being potted by Josh Gaynor. Scott Dobben scored the winner for the Wolves in the third as Lakehead earned a second straight one-goal victory.

Chris Whitley notched his 8th win of the season; turning aside 27 of 30 Windsor shots while Jim Watt recorded the loss for Windsor; stopping 36 of 40 Lakehead attempts.

It was a clean game with Lakehead going 1-3 on the powerplay and Windsor going 0-5 with the man advantage.

The two teams take to the ice again Saturday at 2:00 pm EST in Windsor in the final regular season matchup of the season between the two divisional rivals. In another big OUA Far West battle Saturday; No. 6 Laurier will battle No. 9 Western at the John Labatt Centre in London.
