Lakehead University and the Thunderwolves hockey program are pleased to announce that junior defenceman Dillon Donnelly has been named the team captain for the 2017-18 season.

Wolves' Head Coach Bill McDonald likes what the Dorval, Quebec native showed him last season as a sophomore, his first with Lakehead after transferring from St. Thomas where he played as a freshman. "Dillon came to us last year and fit in right away as a leader, and he dislplays those leadership qualities both on and off the ice," McDonald said.

In something out of the ordinary, the squad will have four assistant captains this year. Seniors Dylan Butler and Brennen Dubchak will wear the "A" when the Thunderwolves wear their white jerseys, while juniors Jake Ringuette and Billy Jenkins will handle the role of assistants when the Wolves wear their blues.

"I'm pleased to have five different players providing leadership for our team," McDonald added. "We want all of our guys to be leaders, but these five will be at the forefront wearing the letters. Dylan, Brennen, Jake and Billy will help Dillon out. We have a lot of freshmen on the roster this year, and our captains can show them the way."

Donnelly is happy to accept his new role. "Being named captain is a great honour. It was somewhat unexpected, but I'm ready to take on the task," he said. "We've got a good young team mixed with some veteran leadership, so we think it's going to be a good year. But it's important to realize that it's not all about me. We need the entire team all pulling in the same direction to be successful."
