Lakehead University and the Thunderwolves hockey team are pleased to announce that freshman defenceman Mitch Fillman has been named to the CIS All-Rookie Team.

Earlier this month, Fillman was also named to the OUA All-Rookie Team as well as the OUA West Second Team All-Stars.

The Oakville, Ontario native scored 27 points in 41 games played for the Wolves this past season.

Thunderwolves Head Coach Joel Scherban feels that Fillman is certainly deserving of the honor. Mitch stepped into the line-up as a freshman and made an immediate impact, Scherban said. He played on the top defence pairing, the first power play unit, and the second penalty kill unit. Mitch led all Lakehead defenceman in ice time and played in the most critical situations. He has a complete skill set, but its his ability to skate with the puck that sets him apart from most other defencemen in the CIS. Were proud of Mitch's accomplishments so far, and look forward to aiding his future development.

Fillman joins Scherban, Jeff Richards, Erik Lodge, Chris Whitley and Jordan Smith as the only Thunderwolves that have been selected to CIS hockey All-Canadian and/or All-Rookie Teams.
