Hammond wins Molson Cup

Lakehead Thunderwolves junior forward Mike Hammond (Victoria, BC) is the winner of the Molson Cup trophy for the 2013-14 hockey season.


Molson Cup points are awarded to players that are selected as the Molson Three Stars after Thunderwolves hockey home games. Five points are awarded for a first star selection, three points for a second star, and two points for a third star.


Finishing behind Hammond in second place in the Molson Cup standingsis freshman forward Cody Alcock (Oshawa, ON), followed in third position by junior goalie Jeff Bosch (Martensville, SK). Although Alcock and Bosch were tied with 22 points, Alcock finished second by having more first star selections. All three players will have their names inscribed on the trophy.


Fifth-year senior forward and team captain Andrew Wilkins was just one point behind Alcock and Bosch in what turned out to be an extremely close race.


The point totals for the top five finishers in the Molson Cup standings for 2013-14 are:

Hammond will be awarded the trophy in a pre-game ceremony that will include the top three finishers before Lakeheads first home playoff game on February 21. This will be the second time that he has won the Molson Cup, having previously received the award his freshman year.
