The Lakehead Thunderwolves will host the Laurier Golden Hawks at the Fort William Gardens this weekend in a key series for both teams as the OUA regular season hits the home stretch.  The opening face-off is set for 7:00 pm on both Friday and Saturday nights.

Lakehead: 10-9-1 OUA (5th place West Division) 16-10-1 overall

Laurier: 8-11-1 OUA (8th place West Division) 10-14-2 overall

Recent Results

Lakehead came away with a series split at Windsor last weekend.  After falling 8-2 to the Lancers on Friday evening, the Wolves rebounded to win 2-1 in the Saturday rematch.

Laurier recorded a win and a loss last weekend as well.  After defeating Western 5-1 in London on Friday, the Hawks returned home where they were edged 4-3 by Ryerson on Saturday night.

Series History

The Wolves and Hawks have had some great battles over the years, with Lakehead holding a slight advantage in the all-time series between the two squads with a record of 33-27 versus Laurier.

Lakehead played one game at Laurier as part of a three-game road trip last November, with the Golden Hawks coming out on top in a 3-2 overtime shootout.

About the Golden Hawks

Thunder Bay native Greg Puhalski is in his ninth season behind the Laurier bench and has one of the youngest teams in the OUA with 14 freshmen on the roster.

Laurier’s scoring is done by committee with forwards Jeremy Pullara and Danny Hanlon on the top of the list.  Defenceman Kyle Jenkins anchors the Hawks’ blue line and chips in offensively as well.

Freshman goaltender Tyler Fassl has carried the load this season, posting a solid 2.53 goals-against average.
