Richards Named Lakehead Athlete of the Year

Lakehead University held its annual Athletic Awards Dinner Friday night at the Victoria Inn in Thunder Bay to celebrate another season of athletic success by Lakehead student-athletes. Major Award Winners on the evening were Jeff Richards (Kenora, Ont) of mens hockey who was named Male Athlete of the Year and Robyn Degray (Cornwall, Ont.) of womens basketball who was named Female Athlete of the Year. Richards led the hockey Thunderwolves to their second consecutive OUA Far West Division title and was named OUA West Conference MVP and a CIS All-Canadian. Degray was named an OUA All-Star for the third consecutive year and was the only player in the CIS to average in double digits in scoring and rebounds this season.

Tara Boyce (Hamilton, Ont.) of Womens basketball was named Female Freshman Athlete of the Year while mens hockey Kris Callaway (North Delta, B.C.) was named Male Freshman Athlete of the Year. Boyce and Callaway were both named to their respective OUA All-Rookie teams.

- Most Valuable Player - Chris Swenson

Women's Basketball
- Rookie of the Year - Tara Boyce

- Best Defensive Player - Megan Corby
- Most Valuable Player - Robyn DeGray

Women's Indoor Track & Field - MVP - Maureen Watson
Watson won her second consecutive OUA Weight Throw Championship.
Men's Indoor Track & Field - MVP - Tony Valente

Men's Hockey
- Rookie of the Year - Kris Callaway
- Most Improved Player - Hugo Lehoux
- Best Work Ethic Award- Joel Scherban
- Most Valuable Player - Jeff Richards

- Richards was named OUA MVP and First Team All-Star. Scherban was named OUA First Team All-Star for third consecutive year and won OUA and CIS Most Sportsmanlike Player Award for second consecutive year.
