Lakehead Thunderwolves Men's Hockey Team Captain Joel Scherban was given a special recognition award by the City of Thunder Bay Citizen on Monday night. Scherban was given his award at a ceremony at Thunder Bay City Hall by Mayor Lynn Peterson in recognition for his being awarded the J.W. Pugh Trophy as the CIS Most Sportsmanlike Player for the second year in a row. The city award is chosen each month by the Official Recognition Committee and given to a Thunder Bay citizen of exceptional achievement in the fields of sports, culture, and community service.

Scherban said he was very proud to accept the award. "It's an honour to be given this award by the City of Thunder Bay. As a member of the Lakehead University Thunderwolves hockey team, and a citizen of Thunder Bay, I've always tried my best to be a positive role model, both on the ice, and in the community."
