Lakehead University, Lakehead Athletics, and Thunderwolves Hockey are very happy to announce that Murray Walberg is the new Chair of Lakeheads CIS Mens Hockey Championships Advisory Committee that oversees the University Cup. Walberg is the Regional Vice President, Northwestern Ontario, of RBC Royal Bank. He has agreed to act as chairman of the committee for the 2008-2009 season.
Lakehead University is hosting the CIS Mens Hockey Championships from Mar. 26-29 in 2009 and March 25-28 of 2010; the first time that Lakehead has hosted these championships.
Lakehead Athletics Director Tom Warden said Walberg is the right choice to head the committee. Murray is highly regarded in the community of Thunder Bay and his professionalism will be a huge asset to our committee. I would like to welcome Murray and thank him for stepping up to provide his expertise.
Walberg said he is very honoured to head the committee. I value the opportunity to act as Chair for the CIS 2009 Men's Hockey Championships. An outstanding organizing committee is already in place and hard at work; I look forward to the opportunity to support and participate. The Advisory Committee was formed to act as an executive committee for the organization of the 2009 and 2010 University Cup that will be hosted by Lakehead University, Thunderwolves Hockey, and the City of Thunder Bay. All final decision making concerning the nationals will be done at this level. Subcommittees will be responsible for specific areas such as Marketing, Operations, and Communications. Walberg will act as chairman of this committee for the first of the two consecutive national tournaments.
