The OUA announced today that Tobias Whelan, Matt Jacques, and Mark Soares of the Lakehead Thunderwolves mens hockey team garnered top OUA awards. Whelan was named an OUA West First Team All Star, Jacques an OUA West Second Team All Star, and Soares was named OUA West Rookie of the Year and an All Rookie Team selection.
Whelan, a third year General Arts student from Orillia, Ontario, had a phenomenal season. The smooth playmaker led the Wolves in regular season scoring with 16 goals and 25 assists; placing him 5th in the OUA and 7th in CIS scoring.
Jacques, a senior Commerce student from Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, played a very strong season on the point for the Wolves. He elevated his game defensively and also led all Lakehead blueliners in scoring with 7 goals and 15 assists in the regular season; fifth in team scoring.
Soares, a freshman General Arts student from Burnaby, British Columbia, had a fantastic first year with the Wolves. He led all OUA rookie scorers in the regular season with 16 goals and 16 assists for 32 points; tying him for 11th in OUA scoring.
