Chris Whitley of mens hockey and Anna Crawford of Nordic skiing were named Lakehead Athletics Male and Female Athletes of the Year as Lakehead held its annual Athletic Awards Ceremony on Wednesday and awards were also given out to varsity and club athletes from the various Thunderwolves teams. Thunderwolves mens hockey captain Andrew Brown won the prestigious Hank Akervall Award while Lindsey Johnson of womens volleyball was named the winner of the Argus Award. Other major award winners were Chris Hamilton and Christina Groulx of the Nordic Wolves who were named Freshmen Athletes of the Year.
On the hockey side; Kris Hogg was named Lakehead Hockey Rookie of the Year, the Most Improved Player Award went to Shandor Alphonso, the Best Work Ethic Award to Kyle Moir, the Best Defensive Player to Brad Priestlay, and the Team MVP to Chris Whitley.
