The CIS No. 5 Lakehead Thunderwolves mens hockey team had to battle very hard to earn a tough 3-2 home win over the Ryerson Rams Saturday night at the Fort William Gardens in Thunder Bay, Ontario. The game was nothing like Fridays game that saw the Wolves handle the Rams 8-0.

The game featured a lot of hard hitting from both sides and Ryerson really stepped up their game offensively and defensively from Friday while freshman goaltender Louis George (1-3 OUA) played an incredible game between the pipes for the Rams; making a number of circus saves and turning aside 48 Lakehead shots.

Lakehead had a number of great scoring opportunities on the night but were denied again and again by the acrobatic George. Lakehead goalie Kyle Moir (8-2-1-1) picked up the win for the Wolves but he too had to be sharp; making a number of good saves throughout the game.

Lakeheads goals came from Drew Kivell, Brock McPherson, and Andy Hyvarinen. Hyvarinen also picked up an assist while freshman Arron Alphonso played perhaps his best game of the season; setting up two of the Lakehead goals. Donivan Munro and Stewart DEall scored for the Rams while Kevin Krasnowski played a great game for the Rams notching two helpers.

Lakeheads regular season mark goes to 15-3-1-1 in OUA record (21-6-1-1 overall); while Ryersons record goes to 4-15 in OUA play (6-19 overall).

The Molsons Three Stars were:
1)Lakehead Arron Alphonso
2)Ryerson: Louis George
3)Lakehead: Andy Hyvarinen

The Wolves are now 3-0 in their new bright Maize uniforms. Lakehead returns to battle in the OUA Far West trenches for four straight weekends to close out the regular season when they hit the road next weekend to tackle the Windsor Lancers in Windsor.
