Wolves Beat Lancers 9-0

The No. 6 Lakehead Thunderwolves mens hockey team skated to a convincing 9-0 win over the Windsor Lancers Friday night at the Fort William Gardens in Thunder Bay. The Wolves go to 15-3-1 in OUA play (19-7-1 overall) while Windsor is now 4-16-1 in conference action.

The Wolves again featured a balanced attack and got scoring from three of four of their forward lines and an excellent all-around game from defenseman Jordan C. Smith. Smith and captain Andrew Brown each scored a pair of goals while singles came from Brock Mcpherson, Brad Priestlay, Richard Molenaar, Dan Speer, and Mark Soares. McPherson, Soares, and Kris Hogg each had three assists to give both McPherson and Soares 4-point nights and to give Hogg 11 points in his last three games (5 goals, 6 assists). Dan Speer and Tobias Whelan had two assists apiece.

Lakehead netminder Chris Whitley notched his first shutout of the regular season and raised his conference record to a perfect 11-0.

Lakehead outshot Windsor 43 16 on the night. The Wolves were 1-5 on the powerplay while Windsor went 0-4.

Lakehead dominated play in the first period and led 4-0 after one. Windsor picked up play in the second but the Wolves still came up with two goals. Lakehead then picked it up in the third to put the game away with three more goals.
