The Lakehead Thunderwolves were shut out 3-0 by the Windsor Lancers at the South Windsor Arena on Saturday night.

Looking to avenge a 2-1 loss to the Wolves the previous evening, the Lancers came out of the gate quickly, taking a 1-0 lead on a goal by Drew Palmer just 47 seconds into the game. Spencer Pommels and Mac McDonnell were credited with the assists.

Midway through the first period, Pommels made it 2-0 for Windsor when he beat Wolves goalie Jeff Bosch on an unassisted effort while the Lancers were short-handed.

Both Bosch and Windsor netminder Parker Van Buskirk were solid in their respective goals for the second night in a row.

The game was chippy at times with 16 penalties handed out in total, but neither team was able to score with the man-advantage. Lakeheads Paul Thompson and Ryan Magill both received misconduct penalties; Thompsons was a two and ten for a checking to the head call in the second period, while Magill got five and a game for checking from behind late in the third.

Lakehead applied plenty of pressure on Van Buskirk - especially in the third period, but Pommels iced the game with his third point of the night on an empty-netter in the final minute of the game the seal the 3-0 win for the Lancers.

Shots on goal for the game were even at 32 per side.

The loss drops Lakeheads OUA record to 15-6-1, and leaves the Wolves just one point behind Western Ontario in the race for first place in the West Division.

The Thunderwolves return home next weekend for a pair of games versus the Ottawa Gee Gees.
