The Lakehead Thunderwolves mens hockey team got back on track, Friday night, as they defeated the Guelph Gryphons, 3-1 at the Guelph Centre Arena in Guelph, Ont. The win came behind a 33-save effort for Wolves netminder Kyle Moir who earned his ninth win of the season.

Defenseman Mitch Maunu and fowards Kris Hogg and Adam Sergeries each scored in the first period for the Wolves, who improve to 9-3-2 on the season. Thomas Kiriakou continued his strong freshman campaign in scoring the Gryphons lone marker.

Lakehead got off to a quick start as Maunu scored his second of the season at the 2:50 mark of the opening period. Scott Dobben and Victor Anilane got the assists.

The Pack continued to press later on in the frame as Hogg scored the eventual winner at 10:22 off a helper from Sergerie who rounded out the teams scoring effort less than six minutes later on the powerplay. Mark Soares and Maunu added the assists.

Kiriakou made it interested late in the second period when his shot found the back of the net on the powerplay off assists from Ed Gale and Derek Knowles.

The two teams will square off for a fourth time this year, Saturday night, with the puck dropping at 7:30 p.m. Rock 94 and www.Rock94.com will broadcast the game live with Bryan Wyatt calling the action.
