Eight members of the Thunderwolves mens hockey team accepted the challenge to play floor hockey against the Thunder Bay ThunderHawks Special Olympics team on Wednesday, April 16th at LEcole Gron Morgan. The ThunderHawks are a team of developmentally challenged players from Thunder Bay.

The event also featured a special cheque presentation by Fountain Tire and Musselwhite Mines to Thunder Bay Special Olympics for the annual Thunderwolves Score For More promotion; whereby Musselwhite Mine and Fountain Tire donate 15 dollars for each Lakehead Thunderwolves goal scored at all Wolves home games during the season. This season the Wolves scored 121 goals at home and the total collected is 3,630 dollars.

The eight players from the Thunderwolves were Lakehead captain Andrew Brown, Drew Kivell, Jordan C. Smith, Mike Wehrstedt, Dan Rogers, Mitch Maunu, Adam Sergerie, and Shandor Alphonso.

Thunderwolves Hockey Executive Director Jason Mallon said this special game was a great way to celebrate this years Score for More fundraiser. Musselwhite Mine and Fountain Tire step up every year with Score for More and it's so nice to see these two corporations give back to the community of Thunder Bay and Special Olympics.

Musselwhite Mine Maintenance Coordinator Darrell Brown said his company is very happy to work with Wolves hockey and Fountain Tire each year in support of worthy causes. Musselwhite Mine is proud to be a sponsor of the Score for More program and as a whole feel that this is a great opportunity to give back to our community. This year we are excited to be able to contribute to The Special Olympics and at the same time support our Thunder Wolves; a win win situation. We are thrilled and fortunate to have a great partner, Fountain Tire, in the Score for more program and look forward to continuing our commitment to making a difference, let's raise the bar. . . Go Wolves Go!

Fountain Tire Manager Darcy Hunter said Special Olympics is a very worthy recipient. "We at Fountain Tire are proud to be able to partner with the Thunder Wolves in such an exciting way to raise money for a good cause like the Special Olympics. Many of the Special Olympic athletes are great Thunder Wolves fans as well."

Lorraine Halabisky, Event Cooridinator and Treasurer of Thunder Bay Special Olympics, said Special Olympics is the big winner this year. "This event will be a very fun way to mark a very successful season in which the Thunderwolves, Fountain Tire, and Musselwhite Mine teamed together to raise over $3600.00 for the approximately two hundred athletes with developmental disabilities who participate in Special Olympics Thunder Bay. Thank you so much. The money will be used to purchase equipment and uniforms for athletes involved in bowling, basketball, curling, swimming, track and field, softball, and floor hockey."
