Led by Tobias Whelan's two goals and the shutout goaltending of rookie netminder Chris Whitley, the Lakehead Thunderwolves earned a split of their weekend series against the York Lions Saturday night with a 6-0 win in Toronto. Murray Magill and Chris Shaffer added a goal and an assist eachfor the Wolves with Lakehead's other goals coming from Andrew Brown and Joel Scherban.
Lakehead outshot York 41-27. It was the rookie Whitley's first regular season shutout. The win puts Lakehead's OUA record to 6-2-0-0 (12-4-1-1 overall) and drops York's record to 4-4-0-1 in OUA play and 7-5-0-1 overall. The Thunderwolvescontinue OUA regular season play next weekend when they travel to Kingston, Ontario to take on the resurgent Queen's Golden Gaels.
