Wolves Swept by Stangs

The Lakehead Thunderwolves mens hockey team lost 6-2 to the Western Mustangs Sunday afternoon at the John Labatt Centre in London, Ontario. Lakehead now has a 12-7-2-1 OUA record (15-14-2-while Western goes to 13-5-2-2 in OUA play and 15-7-2-2 overall. Western now moves three points up in second place ahead of Lakehead in the OUA Far West standings.

Lakeheads goals came from Jeff Richards and Dan Speer. Westerns scoring came from Jesse Boucher with a pair and singles from Jeff Martens, Ryan Hare, Kyle Piwowarczyk, and Steve Benedetti.

Western outshot Lakehead 45-29 in the game. Brad Topping (10-5-1) got his second consecutive win in goal for the Stangs against Lakehead. Although he wasnt as busy as his Lakehead counterpart; Topping made a number of good saves including a couple off Lakeheads Mark Soares.

Chris Whitley (10-6-2) took his second loss of the weekend in the Lakehead nets. Matti Korhonen came in after the fifth goal and made some great stops and was unlucky to be beat for the final goal as it redirected off the leg of one of his own defenseman.

Lakehead was 1-6 on the powerplay while Western went 1-5.

Lakehead hosts the Laurier Golden Hawks next weekend at the Fort William Gardens for a two-game series.
