Lakehead Athletics and Thunderwolves Hockey Head Coach Don McKee are very happy to announce the commitment of defenseman Mitch Maunu to Lakehead men’s hockey for the 2007-08 season. The Thunder Bay native was selected in the 4th round of the 2004 NHL Draft by the Chicago Blackhawks. Maunu played four seasons for Windsor in the OHL and last year saw action with Toledo of the ECHL, Norfolk of the American Hockey League, and Saginaw of the OHL. McKee said Maunu will be a great addition to the Thunderwolves. “We’re thrilled to have a player of Mitch Maunu’s caliber, and a local boy, joining our program as he is a player who had an outstanding OHL career. I think he has the potential to become a premiere defenseman in the CIS as he is the total package; size, skill, and vision.” Maunu said he is really looking forward to attending Lakehead and playing university hockey in his hometown. “I’m really excited to be joining Lakehead and getting the chance to play in front of my friends and family. The team is looking good this year and I think is going to be very strong over the next few years. I’m also looking forward to the chance at playing in the CIS nationals that Lakehead will host and getting a crack at a national title. I am going to do my best to contribute to the team and help us achieve that goal.” Mitch Maunu Bio: Mitch Maunu Stats: |
