Lakehead University and the Thunderwolves hockey team are pleased to announce that Daniel Del Paggio is the programs first commitment of the 2017 recruiting class.

The 59, 175-pound forward played three years in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, his first two coming with the Saint John Sea Dogs. The Thunder Bay native was traded to the Gatineau Olympiques for his final campaign in the Q this past season where he tallied 51 points in 66 games.

His most productive year was with Saint John in 2015-16 when he recorded 55 points in 65 regular-season games before adding another 12 points in 17 playoff contests.

Head Coach Bill McDonald is thrilled to have Del Paggio joining the program. Hes a great addition and a real character guy, McDonald said. Daniel is a highly-skilled player with great vision and hell be a big part of our offense.

Del Paggio began his junior hockey career with the Thunder Bay North Stars of the SIJHL where he racked up a whopping 105 points as a 17-year-old.

Daniel, who will be majoring in science at Lakehead, is looking forward to his homecoming. Im a hometown boy and friends and family are important to me. I grew up watching the Thunderwolves and Im excited to have the opportunity to become one myself, he said. "I also chose Lakehead because the team is up and coming, and I want to contribute right off the bat and be an all-around solid player, work hard and provide some leadership."
