On February 1, 2013, Lakehead Thunderwolves Hockey took on the Waterloo Warriors before a packed crowd at the Fort William Gardens. They scored big that night with a sudden death shootout, resulting in a 4-3 win over Waterloo. But winning the game wasnt the only goal of the Thunderwolves
that night they also wanted to shine the light on colorectal cancer screening and raise money for the Northern Cancer Fund of the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation.

Special game-night jerseys worn by the players that evening, sporting a ColonCancerCheck logo, were auctioned off until about halfway through the second intermission. The final few minutes brought about a frenzy of excitement as fans continuously checked on their bids, making sure no one had outbid them.
By the end of the night, just over $1,800 was raised to support exceptional cancer care right here in Northwestern Ontario.

Funds from events like Jersey Night ensure that leading-edge equipment, like new linear accelerators are available to provide advanced radiation therapy treatments to patients. They also support screening initiatives like our mobile coach that allows patients to be screened for cancer, right in their home community.

To top off the night, Cancer Care Ontario set up a photo station where anyone could take a photo of themselves, pledging to get screened for colorectal cancer or vowing to talk to a friend or family member about the opportunity for screening. Fans over the age of 50 who made a pledge to get screened for colorectal cancer were entered into a draw to win a brand new iPad! A gallery of photos from across the province can be seen on the Cancer Care Ontario Facebook page.

Thank you to Lakehead Thunderwolves Hockey and their incredible fans for your ongoing support of the Northern Cancer Fund. You are making hope possible.
