The Lakehead Thunderwolves will kick off the second half of the OUA campaign this weekend at the Fort William Gardens, with the opening face-off set for 7:00 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday nights.
Lakehead: 6-8-1 OUA, 9-10-2 overall (7th place West Division)
Windsor: 6-6-4 OUA, 8-11-4 overall (6th place West Division)
The Thunderwolves split the Christmas Challenge with the West Division-leading Guelph Gryphons on December 28-29. Lakehead was edged 3-2 in overtime in the first game, but rebounded with a 4-2 win the following evening.
Windsor played one non-conference game over the Christmas holidays, an 8-2 loss at the University of Miami, Ohio.
With an all-time record of 40-22 versus the Lancers, the Wolves have recorded more wins against Windsor than they have over any other opponent.
The two squads split their most recent series when they faced-off in Thunder Bay in October of 2016. Lakehead took the Friday opener 4-3, but Windsor responded with a 6-3 victory in the Saturday rematch.
About the Lancers
Like Lakehead, Windsor is a stingy team defensively, allowing just under three goals per game in 16 OUA contests this fall.
A big reason for that is freshman goaltender Jonathan Reinhart, who sports the best save percentage (.937) in the league. Junior netminder Blake Richard has also seen time in the Windsor goal, posting solid numbers.
Freshman defenceman Kody Gagnon is Windsor’s leading point-getter, and forwards Brennan Feasey, Ian Parker and Kyle Hope are also offensive threats for the Lancers.
The Lancers been good at home this year, winning 6 of 8 games in Windsor. They've had plenty of trouble on the road, however, recording just 2 wins in 15 contests.
