Lakehead Thunderwolves mens hockey and Lakehead Head Coach Don McKee are very happy to announce the team captain and assistant captains for the Wolves for the 2007-08 season.

The new team captain is senior forward Andrew Brown and the assistant captains are fifth year senior forward Mike Wehrstedt, senior forward Tobias Whelan, and senior defenceman Drew Kivell.

McKee said that there is a lot of leadership on the Lakehead roster but that these four were voted by the squad to lead and represent them this season. I believe captain and assistant captain positions are not given for popularity; but given as a sign of respect for the players chosen. All the players on our team showed they respect these four young men by choosing them as the team leaders.

Brown is the third captain for the Thunderwolves; following Joel Scherban (2001-02 to 2005-06) and Jeff Richards (2006-07). Brown, who was captain of the Belleville Bulls of the OHL, said he is honoured to be Lakeheads new captain. Its a great honour to be named captain of the Thunderwolves; especially being voted to the position by my teammates. I am also very honoured to have the confidence of the coaching staff. I am very excited to begin this new role with the Wolves and hope I can contribute to bringing a national championship to Lakehead and to provide leadership and guidance to the younger players both on the ice and in the classroom by helping them achieving their goals as student-athletes at the CIS level.

McKee added that the four chosen will be excellent leaders this season. These guys demonstrate, both on and off the ice, what is needed to be a leader and what it takes to lead this team to another level.
