The Lakehead Thunderwolves mens hockey team and Head Coach Don McKee are very proud to announce the commitment of forward Arron Alphonso to the Wolves for the 2008-09 season. Arrons brother Shandor (senior forward) is also a player for Lakehead.

Alphonso played four seasons of major junior hockey in the OHL; three years for the Ottawa 67s and this past season for the Soo Greyhounds. Alphonso is known for his physical play, grit, and desire to win. The addition of Alphonsos skill, along with the proven speed of Lakehead star Mark Soares, should help to keep opposing defenses honest this season.

Alphonso is foregoing his last year of Major A eligibility as he is very keen to join the Thunderwolves in a year they host the CIS national championships as well as giving him the opportunity to play on the same team as his brother.

Lakehead Head Coach Don McKee said Alphonso will be a big addition to the Lakehead lineup. Arron brings incredible speed to the Wolves lineup. We feel Arron can tutor very well under our fifth year senior Captain Andrew Brown and learn what it takes to play at the CIS level. Arron is the right winger weve been looking for to fill the skates of graduated star Mike Wehrstedt. Arron is a high intensity player who always wants to win and the Lakehead coaching staff has high expectations for his development.

Alphonso said he is very excited about studying and playing at Lakehead. I am really looking forward to be a part of the Lakehead squad and attend school there. I have heard nothing but great things about the hockey program and the university from my brother. I cant wait to play in front of the great fans there and am also looking forward to playing in the national championships. Finally, I am so happy for this opportunity to play on the same team as my brother; something weve never done before so I cant wait to get started.
