Cheryl Pounder Guest Instructor at 'Wolves Girls Camp

Canadian National Womens Hockey Teamdefensewoman Cheryl Pounder was Guest Instructor today and yesterdayat the Chronicle Journal/Lakehead University Thunderwolves High Performance Girls Bantam/Midget Hockey Camp running from Aug. 30th to Sep. 3rd. Pounder, a member of the Olympic Gold medal winning Salt Lake City womens team was on hand to impart her hockey wisdom and experience to the young players at the camp.

The camp is being run by Lakehead Head Coach Pete Belliveau and National Womens Team Head Scout Wally Kozak. Another featured instructor at the camp is Thunder Bay native and Dartmouth University hockey star Katie Weatherston. Weatherston was Dartmouths leading scorer last season.

Belliveau said he was thrilled to have Pounder as a Guest Instructor. Were very excited to have a national team member and gold medal winner here to talk to our local girls about what it takes to bring their game to the next level.

Pounder has helped Canada win many world titles as well as being a member of the Salt Lake City team. She was named Wilfrid Laurier's University Athlete of the Year for the 1997-98 season and was an Ontario University All-Star from 1996-1998. She graduated from Laurier in Kinesiology. Pounder is also a member of the Beatrice Aeros team of the National Womens Hockey League.

Pounder said she lovesworking withyoung players and helping to develop women's hockey. "It is amazing to see the growth of women's hockey throughout Ontario and the rest of Canada. I am really looking forward to coming to the Lakehead Camp and sharing my experiences with the girls."
