Fillman garners more awards; Wilkins named team MVP

Thunderwolves freshman defenceman Mitch Fillman added to his collection of post-season awards at the Lakehead University Athletics Banquet last night.


The Oakville, ON native was named the Rookie of the Year for the Lakehead hockey team, and was later honored as the Lakehead University Male Freshman Athlete of the Year.


Junior forward Andrew Wilkins (Pickering, ON) was chosen as the hockey teams Most Valuable Player. Other team awards went to fifth-year senior forward Devin Welsh (Winnipeg, MB) as Most Improved, fifth-year senior defenceman Mitch Maunu (Thunder Bay, ON) for Best Defensive Player, and senior forward Adam Sergerie (Thunder Bay, ON) won the award for the Best Work Ethic.


Fillman had previously been selected as a Second-Team OUA West All-Star as well as being named to the OUA West All-Rookie team.He was later chosenfor the CIS All-Rookie team at the awards banquet in Fredericton, NB during the National Championships.
