July 24, 2006, Thunder Bay, ON: In 2006, Fountain Tire and Musselwhite Mine placed their fundraising goals with the hockey sticks and goalie gloves of the Lakehead University Thunderwolves Mens Ice Hockey Team. The two businesses agreed to donate $15 each to the George Jeffrey Childrens Foundation for every goal scored on home ice during the regular season. At the end of the OUA season, the Thunderwolves have racked up a first place standing and 102 goals for a total donation of $3000.

Both Fountain Tire and Musselwhite Mine are long time supporters of the George Jeffrey Childrens Foundations capital fundraising campaign and have enjoyed finding interesting ways to donate money. Says Darcy Hunter, manager of Fountain Tire Thunder Bay: We enjoy supporting the Foundation because we know they provide essential services to families across the region, services that are not available anywhere else. At the same time, we wanted to raise the money in a way that would be fun, and would get people excited about the campaign. I think we found the perfect audience in the fans of the Thunderwolves no other team in the OUA comes close to the level of attendance for a game played on home ice!

Hunter is hoping to get more local and regional business involved for the 2006-2007 season, and invites anyone who is interested to contact the Foundation for more information.: It was a great feeling to attend the games and cheer on our local boys, knowing that the better they perform, the more money we raise for the Foundation. It would be great to have more businesses committing $15 for every goal scored and I am sure the fans would be willing to continue cheering the boys on to another OUA victory.
