Joel Scherban, Jeff Richards, Mike Jacobsen, and Kris Callaway join the OUA Select team Sunday and Monday as they challenge the Canadian National Junior team. Both games will be broadcast across Canada on Rogers Sportsnet at 6:00 p.m. EST. The games will serve as tune up matches for the Juniors before they head to Finland for the World Junior Championships.
Lakehead , ranked fourth in Canada, had five players selected, the most by any team. Unfortunately, Bryan Duce, was unable to join the squad due to an exam conflict and Steve Rawski was chosen as an alternate.
Justin Davis, the league and nation's leading scorer averaging 2.25 points per game, heads up the third ranked Western Mustang group of forwards that also includes Mike Rice and Mike Stathopoulos, both tied for third in OUA scoring. The team has a French connection as well, with four players coming from the Quebec schools that compete in OUA men's hockey. From the reigning CIS champion #3 UQTR Patriotes forwards Pierre-Luc Emond and Alexandre Piche will help in the offensive production as both are amongst the top 15 in OUA scoring. Defenseman Jean-Phillipe Glaude is the third Patriote selected to the squad, while Frederic Fraucher from the Concordia Stingers rounds off the Quebec contingent.
