Matt Maisonneuve skated three seasons for the Thunderwolves mens hockey team and in that time established himself as one of the premier penalty killers in the OUA.

The engergetic Maisonneuve used his hustle and speed and hockey smarts to play a sound and intelligent brand of hockey and he always brought his A game to the ice; whether game time or practice time.

He and fellow graduating forward Richard Molenaar became arguably the best PK forward tandem in Thunderwolves Hockey history. Maisonneuve was a CIS Academic All Canadian last season.

Former Lakehead Head Coach Don McKee said Maisonneuve is the kind of player that coaches love to have on their bench. Matt could be considered a 'Coach's Dream'. He brings great ability accompanied by solid perception with an intellectual approach to the game which is electrified by his outstanding attitude. Matt never has a bad practise or game; he is Mr. Consistency. Matt is a great team player who is a role model for others.

Maisonneuve will graduate from Lakehead with a degree in Kinesiolgy. He finishes his Thunderwolves hockey career with 8 goals and 16 assists in 110 games.

Maissoneuve plans on returning to his native Alberta to work on the family farm with his father. He also hopes to remain in hockey as a player and a coach.

Q & A with Matt Maissoneuve:

1)What are your fondest memories as a Lakehead varsity athlete?
Roadtrips and training camps.

2)What do you think was your top athletic achievement or performance as a Lakehead Varsity Athlete?
I think my top achievement was being apart of our very strong penalty kill for my 3 years at lakehead. I am very proud of my role in being one of the first out the door to kill penalties for my teammates.

3)What did being a Lakehead varsity athlete teach you that will help you in your life after university?
Being a Lakehead athlete taught me that we all have our roles on a team and unless we embrace them we will never be happy. I learned that we have to make the best out of any situation and unless we stay positive and support our teammates we can never be champions.

4)What are you plans after graduating from Lakehead?
I will rejoin my father on the family farm and become a full time farmer. I will stay involved in the sport of hockey as a coach and player.
