Pierre-Marc Guilbault has left the Lakehead Thunderwolves hockey team after deciding to retire from competitive hockey.

Guilbault, a senior defenceman and engineering major from St. Julie, Quebec, played in only 14 games this season after suffering a concussion in November, and has since been cleared by doctors to play. But he has decided to focus on academics for the remainder of the year, as he will graduate from Lakehead this spring and is applying for a post-graduate program at the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.) next fall.

As a graduating mechanical engineering student, the risks inherent at this level of competitive hockey are too important to be ignored, Guilbault said. Although I dont seem to suffer from any symptoms anymore, I decided to put an end to my hockey career, and I will not return to competition. He went on to add, The Lakehead Thunderwolves organization, as well as its fans, are second to none and I am truly thankful for the support they have provided me during the past four years. I wish them luck for the rest of the season.

Thunderwolves Head Coach Joel Scherban said that "Pierre is an incredibly intelligent and hard working student. He has set lofty academic goals for himself that require his full energy at this point in his academic career. Scherban went on to add, We thank Pierre for his three plus years of service to Thunderwolves Hockey and wish him the best - we know he has a very bright future in front of him."

Guilbault scored 2 goals and 4 assists this season, and finishes his career at Lakehead with 18 goals and 45 assists for 63 total points in 122 games played.
