Freshman forward Mike Hammond is currently leading the Lakehead Thunderwolves hockey team in the Molson Cup standings heading into the Christmas break. Molson Cup points are awarded to the Three Stars after every Thunderwolves home game. 5 points are awarded for a first-star selection, with 3 points for a second-star, and 2 points for a third.

The race is very close between the top contenders so far this season. Hammond is on top with 20 points, followed closely by sophomore Mike Quesnele with 18. Alex Dupuis is tied for third place with last years winner Ryan McDonald with 10 points each. As the mid-season leader, Hammond will receive a prize pack courtesy of Molson Canada.

The Molson Cup trophy will be awarded to the regular season points winner at a home playoff game in late February. The second and third ranked players will have their name inscribed on the trophy as well, and also receive a prize pack from Molson Canada.
