Journal From Andrew Mizzoni website:

Tuesday, November 26, 2002

Hi everyone,

I apologize for taking so long to update Andrew's journal. This past week has been an emotional roller-coaster to say the least. Andrew's surgery went well and there were no complications. The exenteration surgery required the removal of his left eye and all the tissue in his orbit. Prior to surgery the decision was made to also remove his eyelids. The doctors and nurses were amazed that our brave boy did not require anything for pain. Andrew was only in the hospital for 2 days and was at the rink this past weekend cheering on his team. Dr. Malkin called this afternoon with the results of the pathology report and its GREAT NEWS, our "little" goalie has a 100% chance of shutting out Rhabdomyosarcoma cancer forever. He may still require some chemotherapy and or the implantation of radiation seeds in his orbit. Andrew continues to accept his situation with maturity beyond his years. We have yet to hear him complain or cry. Andrew's return to the crease should be in a few weeks.

We often hear about the negatives surrounding minor hockey, these past few weeks we have experienced firsthand how the minor hockey community on every level has embraced one of their own. Through the link on the GTHL (Greater Toronto Hockey League) website Andrew has had almost 9,000 visitors to his site in just 4 weeks. Thank youall for your heartfelt words of support and prayers.

Sincerely,

Len & Rita Mizzoni
