Former Lakehead star defenseman Mike Jacobsen has signed a one-year contract with Hockey Club Alleghe of the Italian First Division (Serie A). The smooth skating Thunder Bay native skated three seasons for the Thunderwolves and notched 36 goals and 57 assists in 121 games. That total puts him second all time on the Thunderwolves scoring list for defensemen and seventh overall.

Lakehead Head Coach Pete Belliveau said Jacobsen was a key part of Lakehead's hockey success. I would like to wish Mike all the best in Italy and in the future and to thank him for all his great contributions to Lakehead hockey and helping us win our first Queens Cup championship.

Jacobsen was instrumental in the Thunderwolves 2005-06 Queens Cup playoff run as his playmaking ability led the Wolves to their first ever OUA conference championship.

Jacobsen said he is sad about leaving Lakehead but is looking forward to beginning his professional career in Italy. Id like to thank all the staff at Lakehead for all the help theyve given me during my time here. I really loved being a Lakehead hockey player and playing in my hometown but I thought it was time to begin my professional career and playing in the top league in Italy should be a great start. Id like to wish the best to all the boys on the Thunderwolves this season and to the organization in the future as they prepare for the nationals.
