Lakehead Thunderwolves Hockey and Head Coach Pete Belliveau are very pleased to announce the commitment of defenseman Jaryd Brend for the 2006-07 season. The native of Terrace Bay, Ontario split his final season of Junior A this past year between the Castlegar Rebels of the KIJHL and the Fort William First Nation North Stars of the Superior International Junior Hockey League. Although he only played half a season with Fort William; Brend was fourth in regular season scoring and helped lead the North Stars to the Dudley Hewitt Cup Central Canada Junior A championship and a semi-final finish at the RBC Bank Cup national championships.

Coach Belliveau said he was very impressed with Brends play during the North Stars playoff run and at the RBC Bank Cup. Jaryd had a great season and he will add strong transition play to our team as his puck passing and skating abilities will remind our fans of (ex Lakehead d-man) Tyler Williamson. Jaryd is not big, but he plays big and his play at the Royal Bank Cup convinced me that he can compete at the CIS level. His heart and passion for the game will endear him to Lakeheads loyal fans.

Brend said he is looking forward to playing hockey and studying at Lakehead. I am looking forward to continuing my hockey career and furthering my education at Lakehead. The campus is well known for both its education and sports programs, and I know the students and staff support all their athletes wholeheartedly. It looks to be an excellent hockey year to come; following Wolves great season last year gives us a goal to achieve again.

Brend will be enrolling in General Arts at Lakehead in September.
