The Lakehead Thunderwolves mens hockey team and Head Coach Pete Belliveau are very proud to announce that star forward Jeff Richards has been named Captain for the 2006-07 season. The dynamic fifth year forward from Kenora, Ontario is one of the most exciting players in the CIS and will bring his trademark flair, tenacity, and leadership to the captaincy.

The Kenora Komet becomes only the second captain in Lakehead Thunderwolves hockey history; taking over from five-year captain Joel Scherban. Richards is a two-time All Canadian, OUA MVP, and four time OUA All Star. He was also named to both the OUA and CIS All Rookie Teams. Richards was the offensive star of last years CIS national championships in Edmonton where he led all goal scorers with five and was named to the All Tourney Team. He also played for Team Canada at the Winter Universiade in Innsbruck, Austria in 2005.

Head Coach Pete Belliveau said Richards is the right man for the post. The whole organisation is very happy in announcing Jeff Richards as our second captain. Jeff is the ideal candidate because his leadership, skill level, community popularity, and maturity will be important in leading this years edition of the Wolves.

Richards holds numerous Lakehead scoring records and is the teams all time OUA regular season scoring leader and second in overall points to Scherban. Richards holds marks such as most points and goals in a season, most hat tricks in a season and career, and most shorthanded goals in a season and career.

Richards, who has been Assistant Captain for the Wolves for the past three seasons, said he is looking forward to wearing the C for Lakehead in his final year. Its an honour to be a captain of the Thunderwolves and Im very happy to be Captain of this group of guys we have returning this year; theyre a really solid and dedicated group. I will work very hard to continue what Joel started and hopefully well put together another good year and make it back to the national championships.
