Joel Scherban, #19, is the Thunderwolves second year team Captain. Last year, he led the team with 17 goals and 20 assists for 37 points. Scherban was named to the West Conference First All-Star Team and was also named to the West Conference All-Rookie Team. Scherban is the inspirational heart and soul of the Thunderwolves, a player who always gives 100%.

MA: What are your thoughts on the team and the organization as its second season has just begun?

Scherban: Pete worked hard in the off season recruiting and has gotten some talented players. I think with hard work we will be able to achieve a lot.

MA: What do you think are the differences between this year's team and last year's?

Scherban: This year's team is more talented and has a lot more depth. We have 13 forwards, 9 defencemen, and 2 goalies who are capable of contributing every night.

MA: What do you think about the team's chances for this season?

Scherban: Our goal is to win the national championship. It is a very high goal to set but with hard work and a couple of bounces I think it is a goal we are capable of achieving.

MA: How do you feel after opening the 2002/2003 OUA season with two victories over defending CIS champions Western?

Scherban: Western is a very good team. Winning 2 games against them shows we areheaded in the right direction. We now must build on that series when we head to Waterloo.

MA: Do you do any special training to compensate for your asthma condition?

Scherban: I don't really do any special training for my asthma, but I try to keep in top shape by working out in the gym everyday in addition to practice.

MA: Your hobbies are golf, football, and baseball? Who are your favourite players in each sport, and why?

Scherban: Mike Weir; Brian Urlacher; and Carlos Delgado. I like Mike Weir because he is Canadian, and Urlacher and Delgado because they play for my favourite teams, the Toronto Blue Jays, and the Chicago Bears.

MA: What do you really love about being a Thunderwolf?

Scherban: I enjoy playing in front of the best fans anywhere in University Sports.

MA: What are your thoughts about the upcoming road trip to Waterloo?

Scherban: Waterloo played very well against us last year. Our goal is to be the hardest working team in every game we play and that will be the key to the upcoming series in waterloo.

MA: Do you have any message to the Thunderwolves fans?

Scherban: I would like to thank them for the support they have given us. They have been a huge part of the success we have had in just over 1 year. As a player we try our best to entertain the fans with high quality hockey and hard work. Hopefully we will be able to share a championship with them in the near future.
