Lakehead Athletics and Athletics Director Tom Warden are very happy to announce the 2007 Lakehead Wall of Fame Inductees. All of the inductees will be honoured at a special Wall of Fame ceremony held during the annual John Zanatta Memorial Homecoming Weekend on Saturday, September 29, at 11:30 am in the Hangar Athletic Facility on the Lakehead campus.
Warden said this years class of inductees are legends in the history of Lakehead Athletics. All of this years inductees have made invaluable contributions to Lakehead Athletics and to Lakehead University and are all very worthy of being inducted onto the Lakehead Wall of Fame.
In the Athletes Category; the inductees are mens hockey players Murray Smith, Dave Siciliano, and Dwight Stirrett; known as the S Line, Frank Abdou of mens wrestling, Kelly Wilkins (Breutigam) of womens volleyball, and Kerri Skilling of womens swimming.
Inducted in the Builders Category will be former wrestling coach Bob Thayer. Inducted in the Team Category will be the womens swim team from 1974-75 (Kerri Skilling, Wanda Wright (DePape), Andrea Burgelis (Kerr), Pat Gibson and Coach Lakehead Wall of Fame Inductee Don Talbot).
Also being inducted in the Team Category will be the four consecutive OIAA championship golf teams from 1967-68 to 1970-71 (1967-68: Dick Battiston, Rod Ferguson, Dave Kerr, Bill Hodgson, Tony Marsonet, 1968-69: Bill Hodgson, Dave Kerr, Grant Forbes, Albert Swieca, Dennis Halabecki, 1969-70: Guy Cupples, Bob Arvelin, Jerry Brown, Dave Kerr, Grant Forbes, 1970-71: Richard Atkinson, Manfred Brovac, Tony Marsonet, Ian MacRae, John Valley. All four teams were coached by Bill Shannon).
Lakehead Athletics will be releasing features on each of the inductees in the weeks leading up to the Wall of Fame Induction Ceremony on September 29.
