Lakehead beats Brock in double OT
The atmosphere was electric in the Fort William Gardens on Friday night for game 2 of the first round playoff series.
The Thunderwolves and Badgers would come out ready to play. Both teams would get chances early oin the period but it would be the Brock Badgers getting on the board first off of a Lakehead turnover breaking out of the zone and Ryan Stepien would get the puck over to Alexis Cournoyer who would put the puck past Cherepak for the 1-0 lead which would hold up heading into the intermission
Lakehead would come out flying to start the second period and it would not take them long to get on the board as Malte Hasselgren would get the puck over to a wide open Olivier Pouliot who would blast a one timer homwe to the delight of the 2888 fans in attandance and tie the game up at 1-1. Brock would get a chance midway through the period but Cherepak would stop the puck from crossing the line with his stick. The teams would head to the 3rd tied at 1.
In the 3rd period the Brock Badgers would take the lead just before the midway point when Matt Duarte would finish a pass from Colby Saganuik for the 2-1 lead. It would take Lakehead until 18:32 of the 3rd to answer back and the crowd would pop when Josh Van Unen would tip a pass past Bonisteel to send the game into OT.
In the first overtime Lakehead would get 2 powerplay chances and they could not convert. Brock would get a powerplay of there own and could not convert. Both teams would have there share of chances but would remain tied and Brock would take a late penalty which would have Laklehead on the powerplay to start double OT.
It would not take long 0:45 to be exact for Lakehead to send the fans into a frenzy as Josh Van Unen would put a shot towards the net and it would hit Nicholas De Grazia and slide into the net to give Lakehead the win and send the series to the deciding game 3 on Saturday night.
