Lakehead drops season opener to Guelph

On Lakehead's seasoning opening Wall of Fame introduction ceremony night the Wolves dropped a 5-2 decision to the Guelph Gryphons.

The Gryphons would strike first when Dylan Hurdon would beat Christian Cicigoi to give Guelph the early lead.  The Wolves would answer back later in the period on the powerplay when Olivier Pouliot would finish off a tic tac toe passing play ripping it passed Guelph's Olivier Ciarlo to the delight of the 2736 fans in attendance. The first period would be a chippy one to with both teams scrumming it up multiple times after whistles and racking up penalties as after the scrums.

The second period would see both goalies making spectacular saves time and time again which was eletrifying the crowd. Guelph would take the lead just past the midway point of the period on a powerplay off of a scramble at the side of the net after Griffon Wilson would knocked in the loose puck past Cicigoi. The end of the period would see the  chippiness return as a scrum would ensue at center ice and it would see both teams recieve multiple misconducts.

In the third period  the Wolves would waste little time as Nicholas De Grazia would rifle a seeing eye shot that would find the topshelf to tie the game up 2 and send the fans into a frenzy. But Guelph would answer back with two goals in a span of 28 seconds by Kaeden Johnston and Jack Wismer to take a 4-2 lead.The Gryphons would add one more goal by Anthony Tabak on the powerplay to take a 5-2 lead and that would end up being the final score. Both teams would combine for 113 penalty minutes in the game.
