Lakehead edges the Laurier Golden Hawks 3-2 in OT.
Laurier would get on the board first 1:18 into the 1st period when Bryce Sutherland would send a shot from the right faceoff dot over the shoulder of Christian Cicigoi into the top corner that would send the water bottle flying for the early 1-0 lead which would be the only goal of the period. The shots after one were 8-8.
The second would see the Golden Hawks up their lead to 2-0 with less then 5 minutes to go on a tic tac toe play finished off by Ty Petrou one timing a shot past Cicigoi. The Thunderwolves would answer back 2:23 later when James Fuchs would one time a Josh Van Unen pass by Laurier’s Tristan Malboeuf to cut the Laurier lead to 2-1. The Wolves would outshoot the Hawks 10-9 in the period.
The Wolves would waste little time tying the game up in the third period when Nicholas DeGrazia would blast a one time pass from Olivier Pouliot past a diving Malboeuf only 0:21 seconds into the period. The two teams would exchange scoring chances in the period. Lakehead would out shoot Laurier 9-7 in the period
It would take overtime to sort things out and both teams would get chances but it would be Lakehead’s Malte Hasselgren ripping home a pass from Caden Drury to the delight of the 2586 in attendance and give the Wolves a 3-2 win. Lakehead would out shoot Laurier 33-25 in the game.
