Lakehead opens up the 2026-27 pre-season with a 2-1 overtime loss to Windsor
Lakehead and Windsor would come out with caution while trying to get a read on each other. Lakehead would get a few scoring chances but Max Donoso would keep them off the board. Windsor would get a couple of scoring chances as well but Lakehead’s Carson Cherapak would keep them off the board too. Lakehead would outshoot Windsor 7-6 in the period.
The second period would see Lakehead get some great scoring chances as Quincey Supprien would be denied in close by Max Donoso and a Lakehead 3 on1 would be thawrted by Windsors defence. Lakehead freshmen Luca Riccardi would lay a big hit in the offensive zone late in the period which drew a loud reaction from the fans. Windsor had a couple of in close scoring opportunities but Carson Cherepak kept them off the board and the game scoreless after 2. Lakehead would out shoot Windsor 11-9 in the period for a two period total of 18-15.
Lakehead would finally break the scoreless tie early in the third when freshmen William Haley would take a pass from freshmen Aidan Litke and wrist over a screened Max Donoso got the 1749 fans in attendance on their feet.The Windsor Lancers start to put some pressure on the Thunderwolves and generate some scoring opportunities. With 5:27 to go in the period a skirmish would break out and both teams would be short 3 players each after it was sorted out. Windsor would tie the game up with 1:20 remaining as Luke Pfoh would beat Cherapak in close. The game would go to overtime where Windsor would get two opportunities and the second one they made count with Owen Jones beat Cherepak to end the game with Windsor winning 2-1 and outshooting Lakehead 26-24.
The two teams meet again on Saturday night to conclude the series at 7pm
