The Lakehead Thunderwolves hockey team will host the Laurentian Voyageurs this Friday and Saturday at the Fort William Gardens with the opening face-off set for 7:30 both nights.

Last time out

Lakehead opened the season last weekend with a pair of non-conference losses to the Mount Royal Cougars of the Canada West Conference, dropping the Friday contest 2-0 before being edged 5-4 in overtime in the Saturday rematch.
Laurentian has played only one game coming into this weekend, a 4-3 loss at Nipissing on September 14.

Hammond hot

Mike Hammond, the Wolves top scorer last season, started the 2014-15 campaign right where he left off. The senior forward notched a hat-trick versus Mount Royal on Saturday night.

About the Voyageurs

The Laurentian University hockey program returned to the OUA just last season after an extended hiatus, so the Sudbury-based team led by Head Coach Craig Duncanson is still a very young team. The Voyageurs have added ten new players to the roster this year, so youth and enthusiasm will weigh more heavily than age and experience at Laurentian.

The Voyageurs top scorers returning from last season are forwards Nick Esposto, Marc-Alain Begin and Dylan Fitze, while the defence is anchored by Adam Glynn and Vincent Llorca. Netminders Alain Valiquette and Charlie Millen shared the duties in the Laurentian goal last year.

Series History

The Wolves and Voyageurs played each other for the first time last November when Lakehead swept Laurentian in Sudbury, winning by scores of 7-1 and 4-1.

The Voyageurs then travelled to Thunder Bay in late December for the Crime Stoppers Christmas Challenge with Lakehead sweeping that series as well, downing Laurentian 4-1 and 6-2.
