Lakehead leaves Toronto feeling blue with 5-3 win

Lakehead wins 5-3 and take a 1-0 series lead in the best of 3 series.

Lakehead Thunderwolves strike in the opening game of the 2nd round of the playoffs scoring 5:22 into the stanza when Ben Badalamenti took a cross ice pass from Greg Smith and wired it passed Jett Alexander to put the Wolves up one.

Toronto would start to apply pressure shortly after Lakehead's goal when Cole Purboo would shoot the puck through the crease behind Max Wright and out the other side into the corner. Toronto would get another chance on the same play but Max Wright shut the door.

Lakehead would setup in Toronto's end later in the period and Tyler Jette would through a shot on net and Geoff Dempster would knock in the rebound to put the Wolves up 2-0.

Toronto's Kyle Potts had an opportunity in tight at 15:10 of the period but Wright slammed the door.

Toronto's Kyle Potts would fined the back of the net 6:59 into the second period banging the puck in from the left side of the net to get the Blues on the board.

Quinn Hanna would strike 6 minutes later pinching in and flipping a loose puck over a sprawling Max Wright to tie the game up at 2.

The 3rd period would see Olivier Pouliot find Keighan Gerrie with a quick pass and he would score into the yawning net to put the Wolves back on top 3-2.

Spencer Blackwell would take over from here. He would find the puck in front of the net and slip it past Aleaxnder to increase the lead to 4-2

Blackwell would get his 2nd of the night off of a Griffen Fox faceoff win and beat a surprised Jett Alexander to up the lead.

Toronto's Cole Purboo would bury an Owen Robinson pass past Max Wright to round out the scoring for the game.

Lakehead returns to the friendly confines of the Fort William Gardens this Friday looking to close out the series in Game 2 which starts at 7pm. Game 3 if necessary, would go Saturday night at 7pm.
