A 50-17 shots advantage meant nothing on the scoreboard as the Lakehead Thunderwolves were upset 5-4 in overtime to the RMC Paladins, Saturday afternoon at Kingston, Ontario. The loss was the Wolves first to RMC, having entered the contest with a 9-0-1 record all-time against the team.

Lakehead drops to 9-3-2 in OUA play while RMC improves to 4-6-3, gaining valuable points as they look to fend off the Ottawa Gee Gees for the eighth and final playoff spot in the OUA East.

Brock McPherson and Shandor Alphonso each had big nights for the Wolves in the loss. McPherson scored twice, adding one assist while Shandor scored once with two helpers. Blueliner Ryan Baird added Lakeheads other goal.

Paul Whalen was the hero for RMC, scoring twice in regulation and adding the shootout winner. Landon Lavictoire and John Hart also tallied for the Paladins.

Goaltending was the biggest story of the contest as RMCs Andrew Fleming made 46 saves for the win. After allowing just one goal in his previous two starts, Lakehead netminder Kyle Moir struggled, allowing four goals while stopping just 13 shots.

Lakehead will be back on the road again next weekend as they travel to Guelph for Friday and Saturday games against the Gryphons.
