The Lakehead Thunderwolves come in at No. 5 in the first CIS Top 10 ranking of the 2005-06 season. Leading the Top 10 pack are Alberta and Saskatchewan with AUS representatives St. FX and Moncton coming in at No. 3 and 4. New Brunswick sits at No. 6 while the Calgary Dinos are at No. 7. UQTR has the eighth spot while Acadia is at No. 9 and Western takes the final spot at No. 10. Lakehead has been ranked in every CIS Top 10 since the beginning of the 2002-03 season.

No. 1 Alberta plays a home-and-away series against provincial rivals, the No. 7 Calgary (2-1-1) on Friday and Saturday. No. 2 Saskatchewan opened conference play with a win and a loss at Lethbridge against the surprising Pronghorns (2-1-1), and dropped a 3-1 decision to the Regina Cougars (2-2-1) on Monday night (not considered in this weeks voting).

No. 3 St. FX, CIS champions in 2003-04, lost all-Canadian goalie Mike Mole to the pro ranks but have compensated with spectacular offence in their first two outings with a 7-6 victory over the Saint Marys Huskies (1-1-0) and a 6-3 win over the Dalhousie Tigers (0-2-0).

No. 4 Moncton, who advanced to the CIS tournament for the first time in six years last spring, tied the No. 6 UNB Varsity Reds (1-0-1) 4-4 and beat the UPEI Panthers (0-2-0) 3-1.

No. 5 Lakehead open the regular season at home against Windsor on Friday night. Lakehead kept a 4-3-2 record in non-conference play this fall.
