Lakehead grinded out a hard fought 4-3 overtime win to avoid being swept at home to open the season.

Tyler Ho scored his first goal on the night in the opening period at the 11:11 mark beating York's Dalton Ewing to put Lakehead on the board first.

York would tie the game up seven minutes into the second period when Brendan Browne got around a Lakehead defencemen and slipped one in past Brock Aiken. Two minutes after that Alex Uryga would tuck a wrap around just inside the post to give York the 2-1 lead.

Lakehead would strike a minute and thirty seconds later on the powerplay on a beautiful Joe Mack one timed shot that beat Ewing upstairs and knotted the game up at 2.

After Jordan King was assessed a four minute highsticking double minor York would regain the lead nine seconds into the ensuing powerplay when a Braydon Buziak shot got past Lakehead netminder Aiken to make the score 3-2.

Ten minutes into the third period Tyler Ho would get his second of the night going five hole on Ewing to tie the game up at 3.

This game would need overtime to settle it. Dexter Kuczek had a great chance early into overtime going in all alone but was turned away by Ewing. The hero of the game for Lakehead was first year forward Ben Badalamenti who took a pass from Kyle Auger and made no mistake when he buried it past Dalton Ewing to give the Wolves their first win of the regular season in front of very loud and appreciative crowd of 1504.

Lakehead's next games are November 11, 12 and 13 vs the Ryerson Rams at the Fort William Gardens with puck drop at 7pm all 3 nights.
