Ottawa (CIS) - The University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds move into second position this week in the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) Men's Hockey Top Ten, following a first loss this season for defending National champion UQTR.

The No. 1 University of Alberta Golden Bears ended the first half of the season with a two-game sweep of the UBC Thunderbirds (6-2, 3-0) and go into the Christmas break with a 13-0-1 regular season record.

The Varsity Reds, who defeated Moncton 11-1 in their only contest of the week, move up two spots to No. 2 following losses by UQTR and Lakehead.

The Patriotes dropped a 4-3 decision to a solid Wilfrid Laurier University Golden Hawks squad (7-2-1), before rebounding with an impressive 8-1 victory over the Brock University Badgers (8-3-1), leaders of the OUA Mid West division.

The Lakehead Thunderwolves couldn't do better than a 1-1-1 record during their road trip to Windsor and Toronto and slipped from No. 3 to No. 5. The T-Wolves lost 4-1 to the Lancers (6-7-0) before moving to Toronto where they tied 3-3 and won 6-3 against the Varsity Blues (2-7-2).

Only three games are left on the CIS schedule before the first half of the season officially comes to an end. McGill visits UQTR and Laurier is at Brock on December 5th, and UQTR travels to Ottawa on December 6th.
