The Lakehead Thunderwolves were shut out 6-0 by the Queens Gaels at the Kingston Memorial Centre Friday night.

After a scoreless first period, the Gaels opened the floodgates with a five-goal barrage in the first nine minutes of the second.

Andrew Wiebe knocked home a rebound 33 seconds into the middle frame to get Queens on the board, and then a minute later Patrick McGillis walked right in and fired a wrist shot from the top of the slot to beat Wolves goalie Justin McDonald on the blocker side.

When Eric Mann slapped the puck home just 2:11 into the period, Queens was suddenly up 3-0 and Lakehead called a timeout in an attempt to settle things down.

Wiebe added to the Gaels total with a short-handed marker on a shot that rang off the post and in at 6:59, and then Darcy Greenaway made it 5-0 for Queens to cap the scoring onslaught in the second period at the 8:58 mark.

The Thunderwolves picked up their level of play in the third period, but were unable to get anything past Gaels netminder Kevin Bailie.

Queens forward Tyler Moore notched the only goal of the final stanza when he scored with just over seven minutes remaining in the game.

Shots on net in the game favored Queens by a 37-22 margin.

The Wolves will look to rebound when the two teams square off again Saturday night.
